Its smooth and quiet Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) mechanism independently operates two ‘floating’ focus groups to ensure extremely precise focusing, crucial for macro photography.

There's also a focus-hold button and a focus ring that instantly switches between manual and autofocus.
